Character Modelling

Students are to create a concept model of a
character and recreate it as a 3D digital mesh. You are first to interpret your character
designs as a three dimensional sculpted maquette using traditional model
making techniques. You are then to
transfer your maquette into a digitized form either using a scanner or
photographic references.

Digital Set Modelling

Students are to create digital models for a
background set appropriate for the character animation.

Digital Character
Setup

Students are to take their digital model and create
an articulation rig with joint naming and joint orientation appropriate for
their character. They are then to
develop a deformation setup that enables the mesh to deform in a suitable
manner for character animation.
Finally a control rig is to be created that facilitates the various
kinds of kinematics required for the character animation sequence.

Facial
Animation

Students are to take their character and explore and
create a range of facial expressions that will be used to animate a sequence
of prescribed dialogue.

Digital Set
Texturing & Lighting

Students are to texture and light digital models for
a background set appropriate for the character animation.

Character
Animation

Students are to analyse and plan a simple sequence
of movements that both test the function of the character rig as well as
explore the character’s personality. Dynamics
