Character Modelling | Students are to create a concept model of a character and recreate it as a 3D digital mesh. You are first to interpret your character designs as a three dimensional sculpted maquette using traditional model making techniques. You are then to transfer your maquette into a digitized form either using a scanner or photographic references. | Wk 6 | 25 |
Digital Set Modelling | Students are to create digital models for a background set appropriate for the character animation. | Wk 8 | 15 |
Digital Character Setup | Students are to take their digital model and create an articulation rig with joint naming and joint orientation appropriate for their character. They are then to develop a deformation setup that enables the mesh to deform in a suitable manner for character animation. Finally a control rig is to be created that facilitates the various kinds of kinematics required for the character animation sequence. | Wk 8 | 15 |
Facial Animation | Students are to take their character and explore and create a range of facial expressions that will be used to animate a sequence of prescribed dialogue. | Wk 14 | 15 |
Digital Set Texturing & Lighting | Students are to texture and light digital models for a background set appropriate for the character animation. | Wk 14 | 15 |
Character Animation | Students are to analyse and plan a simple sequence of movements that both test the function of the character rig as well as explore the character’s personality. Dynamics | Wk 14 | 15 |
